REMEMBRANCE DAY
Remembrance Day is an opportunity for all of us to honour the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and those who have responded to the call of duty. Our veterans fought for the values and freedoms we hold dear today, and we remember their incredible bravery when faced with extraordinary circumstances in times of conflict.
Let us take the time to thank all Canadians who have served our country and promoted peace around the world.

I also want to acknowledge that this year, we are also celebrating the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, when more than 45,000 soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of restoring peace in the world.

Your bravery will never be forgotten, thank you for your sacrifice.
Today take the time to thank a veteran.

DONATION FOR VETERAN'S HOUSE
In Canada, it is estimated that about 10% of the homeless are veterans. To help them, the Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing, is currently building Veteran's House the Andy Carswell Building that will offer  40-units of supportive housing reserved for homeless and at-risk veterans in the Wateridge Village in Ottawa-Vanier.
The $11.5 million project received $6.5 million in federal funding, and organizers expect to raise funds to make up the difference.
Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) has also launched a national fundraising campaign with some restaurants  offering menus to bring.
A few restaurants in Ottawa, as well as others across the country, will donate a portion of their profits to support the Veterans House.

To learn more about the Veterans Home or make a donation visit:  https://www.multifaithhousing.ca/veterans-house.html .
Let us support our dear veterans by donating to this project.
SUPPORT PARENTS OF SUICIDAL YOUTH
Today, I want to talk to you about PLEO - Parents’ Lifeline. It is a Canadian non-profit family peer support organization for parents whose children to age 25 are facing mental health challenges. Founded 20 years ago by parents in support of other parents, it has grown into an essential service offering a unique and proven model of family peer support that is effectively helping families find their way forward.

On World Suicide Prevention Day last week, PLEO launched a new resource to support parents of suicidal youth by sharing helpful and hopeful messages from parents and youth with lived experience, suicide prevention experts and clinicians in the following areas:  difficulties identifying signs and improving awareness of suicide risk; communicating effectively; knowing what to do in periods of crisis; keeping youth safe at home; and accessing services

I invite you to view the videos, tip sheets and more that are available here:  https://www.pleo.on.ca/resources/supporting-parents-of-suicidal-youth/.

You can view a short trailer about the project at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO6UJ8TWp9c&t=1s.

REVAMPED CANEXPORT SME PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

Helping Canada’s small businesses go global is key to driving economic recovery. At the beginning of this month, our government announced the revamped CanExport SMEs program.
Launched in 2016, CanExport has helped thousands of entrepreneurs break into new international markets with funding of up to $75,000 to cover travel costs and other expenses. Now, given travel restrictions and the increasing importance of digital trade, this program is pivoting to help small businesses:

  • develop and expand their e-commerce presence
  • attend or host virtual trade shows and other business-to-business events
  • navigate COVID-related global trade barriers by covering costs of new certifications and requirements

As well, CanExport will now provide dedicated support for Indigenous and women entrepreneurs to help them succeed in the global marketplace.
Small and medium-sized business owners are encouraged to apply on the CanExport website.
Our government will continue to support small businesses on the road to economic recovery and position them for future growth.
