Social insurance number now offered online
As of August 3, 2023, Service Canada offers clients the option of viewing their Social Insurance Number (SIN) digitally on the secure My Service Canada Account (MSCA) platform. This online option means that new applicants will no longer have to wait for their SIN to arrive in the mail.
Service Canada will process online Social Insurance Number applications within 5 business days if the application is complete with all required documents. Once the application is processed, the SIN will show up on the client’s MSCA.
Clients applying for their SIN online or by mail will continue to automatically receive their paper SIN confirmation letter by mail.
In 2024, this initiative will continue to evolve to allow clients applying for their SIN online to choose between receiving the confirmation letter by mail, digitally or through their MSCA.

On Wednesday 9th, 2023, Minister Rodriguez held a funding announcement at Ottawa International Airport providing $11 million to Canadian North to build a new cargo facility through the National Trade Corridors Fund.
This investment will be used to support our supply chain to our Northern communities and will be matched by Canadian North bringing the total combined funding up to $22 million.
Today’s announcement is essential in ensuring that our supply chains grow our economy while creating good middle-class jobs for Canadians in the region.
Today also marks the launch of the Verified Traveler Pilot program at Ottawa International airport. This pilot tests the feasibility of having these lines open on a daily basis during peak periods, while maintaining overall service standards for these checkpoints.
These new lines provide eligible travelers with select benefits at security screening checkpoints (Such as keeping laptops or compliant liquids in their carry on), which will improve service quality for all travelers. The pilot will gather data over a 6-month period which will be used to inform our next steps.
Powering our future with clean electricity
Building a net-zero clean electricity grid is key to Canada’s long-term economic success – it will boost international competitiveness, attract key investments, enable clean growth and create good paying jobs in communities across Canada. It is also key to reducing our emissions and enabling economy-wide climate action.
Thursday August 10th, 2023, Minister Guilbeault announced the proposed Clean Electricity Regulations (CER), which are part of our clean electricity strategy that was outlined earlier this week by Minister Wilkinson. These draft regulations were informed by extensive engagement with industry, experts, all provinces and territories, Indigenous organizations, and utilities. These engagements will continue and will help inform the final regulations.
Clean electricity is an essential prerequisite to enabling the emissions reductions necessary to achieve a net-zero economy by 2050. Canada is matching commitments from all G7 nations - including the United States - in committing to net-zero electricity by 2035.
Guided by the Clean Electricity Regulations and enabled by tax-credits and other investments from the federal government, a net-zero electricity grid will mean lower pollution in communities across the country. This is good for the climate, economy, air quality, health and well-being. It will also help prevent the impacts from climate change already costing the Canadian economy billions every year from getting worst.
