A word from your MP...

Dear residents,

Already Friday, it has been a very busy week presenting the numerous measures included in Budget 2024, and being in the constituency to advance priorities, including affordable housing, pressures associated with the cost of living, revitalization of the downtown area and the Byward Market, the environment, maintaining good jobs in the National Capital Region, and supporting small and medium businesses.

Last Sunday, at Invest Ottawa in Bayview Yards, with leaders of small and medium-sized enterprises, we announced the measures of the 2024 Budget to support the growth and success of Canadian SMEs, including
  • The new Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses
  • Empowering young entrepreneurs
  •  Investing in Canadian Startups
  • Boosting government procurement from SMBs

On Tuesday, I participated in the "City-Building" Summit organized by the Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal. The conversations I had touched on the challenges our community is facing, including housing, affordability, and urban revitalization. I discussed with experts and community leaders how we are going to address these challenges and how we all need to put efforts into revitalizing the downtown area and the Byward Market. By stimulating growth and revitalization, we can make the National Capital Region a world-class destination.

And on Wednesday, live from the Wateridge Village, we announced that we will now, in collaboration with the city, the province, and community partners, build more housing on federal lands through the Building Homes on Public Lands plan, including 500 new housing units in Ottawa-Vanier’s Wateridge Village. Provincial MPP Lucille Collard and Rawlson King, councillor for Rideau-Rockcliffe, were also present.

Finally, I had the pleasure of visiting Samuel-Genest Catholic College to meet with students from an Indigenous literature class, to discuss the significant presence of Indigenous communities, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis in the constituency. I was also invited to make a presentation at a meeting with the Burundian Association of Canada about my role as a Member of Parliament as well as the services offered at my constituency office.

I wish you a wonderful weekend and invite you to contact my office if you have any questions or comments about federal services.

The tulip festival is fast approaching!

The National Capital Region is famous for its dazzling displays of colourful tulips — and for good reason. Beginning in late April and continuing into May, close to one million tulips bloom in Ottawa and Gatineau.

As the official gardener of Canada’s Capital, the NCC designs, plants and cares for tulips in the region. That amounts to 100 varieties of tulips, in 120 beds across 30 sites.
