A word from your MP

Dear residents,

I hope you’re enjoying a pleasant and sunny summer in Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester! As we begin the second half of the year, I wanted to share a brief update on the work and events that have taken place in our communities over the past two weeks.

On Monday, June 30, we welcomed a symbol of unity and shared passion to Parliament Hill: the FIFA World Cup trophy!

I was proud to join the Prime Minister, FIFA Vice-President Vittorio Montagliani, Minister Adam van Koeverden, my colleagues from the National Capital Region — Yasir Naqvi, Anita Vandenbeld, Giovanna Mingarelli, and Bruce Fanjoy — along with Bob Richardson from Canada Soccer and the talented young athletes from the Nepean Hotspurs Club to mark this exciting milestone.

As Canada prepares to co-host the 2026 tournament, excitement is building across the country. Monday’s event was a powerful reminder of how sport can bring people together, inspire youth, and foster pride and community.

In the afternoon, I had the honour of speaking at the Commonwealth Veterans’ League conference, held at the Château Laurier in Ottawa. This international event highlighted the importance of our shared commitment to veterans and their families throughout the Commonwealth.

Thank you to the Commonwealth Veterans’ League for your dedication to those who have served.

On Tuesday, it was Canada Day!

II hope you had the chance to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend quality time with your families, loved ones, and communities. There were many events taking place across Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester, and our neighborhoods were filled with energy, pride, and togetherness!

The day began with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe’s breakfast — thank you to the Mayor for kicking off the celebrations! I was then lucky to run into many familiar faces and share in our collective pride alongside City Councillors Tim Tierney, Stéphanie Plante, Marty Carr, and Laura Dudas; my colleagues Yasir Naqvi and Bienvenu-Olivier Ntumba; as well as provincial MPPs Lucille Collard and John Fraser.

I was honoured to attend the official Canada Day ceremonies alongside Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada; His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh; the Prime Minister; the Right Honourable Mark Carney; and several parliamentary colleagues.

Congratulations to the newest recipients of the Order of Canada: Ryan Reynolds, Heather Rankin, Kim Thúy, Deantha Edmunds, and Scott Oake.

The day was also marked by the 11th Annual Terry Fox Ride of Hope, an important event supporting cancer research, commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.
Thank you to the cyclists, volunteers — and especially Darrell Fox — for your dedication and solidarity. This act is a moving tribute to the hope that brings us together.

This year’s Ride of Hope honours the 45th anniversary with an impressive 7,000 km journey from Vancouver to St. John’s, which has already raised over $1.1 million to support cutting-edge cancer research led by top scientists across the country.

Throughout the day, I also had the opportunity to visit several local gatherings — from Lindenlea to the Wateridge Village, stopping by the Eastview Legion and the lively festivities at Eastvale Park organized by the Beacon Hill Community Association. The energy, diversity, and pride that filled our neighbourhoods were truly inspiring!

Supporting the new Vanier HUB and youth arts

On July 4, I was proud to attend the announcement of funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the revitalization of the Vanier HUB and the launch of the ARTventures youth arts program.

This major investment includes $188,700 to renovate the Vanier HUB into a more welcoming, modern, and inclusive space, as well as $29,300 to support ARTventures, which will give local youth greater access to artistic learning and expression.

A big thank you to Architecture Action Lab for your dedication to this project.

It was great to see Lucille Collard at the announcement, and congratulations to Nathalie Carrier from the Vanier HUB and Andrée-Anne Martel, Executive Director of the CSC Vanier, for your leadership and ongoing commitment to Vanier. Another milestone for our community.

The week of July 7 was also a busy one, with many meetings with constituents and community organizations.

Nunavut Day

On July 9, we marked Nunavut Day — a time to celebrate the creation of this unique territory and the rich cultural heritage of the Inuit. In Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester, we are proud to be home to a significant Inuit community whose traditions and knowledge continue to enrich our neighbourhoods.

Happy Nunavut Day! ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥ ᐅᓂᒃᑳᖅ!

At the end of the week, I travelled to Toronto, where I had the opportunity to meet with Minister Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

We spoke about the importance of advancing shared federal priorities — from innovation and economic growth to Canada’s leadership in responsible AI. I look forward to continuing this important work together.

During my visit to Toronto, I had the pleasure of visiting the Centre francophone du Grand Toronto and meeting Estelle Duchon. It’s always a pleasure to return to the Centre and discover the many services and programs offered to Francophones in the region!

Thank you to Estelle Duchon for this enriching conversation, and to the entire team at the Centre for your outstanding work in supporting the community. Your commitment to the Franco-Ontarian population in the Greater Toronto Area is truly inspiring.

To conclude, I’d like to remind you that our constituency office, located at 233 Montreal Road, is here to help.

Whether it’s for passports, immigration, pensions, the Canada Child Benefit, or other government programs, we’re here to help Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester residents access the services they need.

Contact us by phone, by email, or visit us during our office hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

  • Recruiting and retaining thousands of military personnel and civilian employees,
  • Modernizing equipment and infrastructure,
  • Strengthening cybersecurity,
  • Increasing support for Canada’s defence industry,
