Dear residents,
June has arrived, and the weather is finally starting to feel like summer! This early part of the month also marks the launch of Pride Season — a time to recognize, celebrate, and show our solidarity with 2SLGBTQI+ communities across the country.
In Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester, as in the entire National Capital Region, we are proud to welcome everyone, no matter who they are or who they love. This season, marked by parades, community events, and educational activities, reminds us that there is still work to do to build a truly inclusive society.
At the House of Commons, parliamentary work continues. The Speech from the Throne has been adopted, paving the way for the implementation of our ambitious plan to improve the lives of Canadians. Right now, our top priorities are guiding our actions:
• Tax reductions for nearly 22 million Canadians, allowing a two-income family to save up to $840 per year;
• The elimination of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the purchase of a first home valued up to $1 million, enabling buyers to save up to $50,000. For homes valued between $1 million and $1.5 million, a gradual GST reduction will apply.
• Building a strong, unified Canadian economy by removing internal trade barriers and accelerating projects of national interest. On Friday, the government introduced Bill C-5 to advance this priority.

Canada is taking firm action to defend our workers and businesses against unfair tariffs on steel and aluminum.
President Trump announced an order raising tariffs from 25% to 50% on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States, including those from Canada. This decision threatens thousands of jobs here at home and undermines the stability of key sectors such as construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
Canada is the main supplier of these essential materials to the United States:
• 22% of their steel imports
• Nearly 80% of their primary aluminum
These tariffs hurt North American families, increase costs for consumers, and disrupt our integrated supply chains.
Our priority is clear: to protect Canadian jobs, support our industries, and build a strong and united Canadian economy.
In the community
On Tuesday morning, I went to the Rideau Sports Centre to congratulate them on receiving the 2024 TPA Year-Round Facility Excellence Award from the Tennis Professionals Association!
This honour recognizes RSC’s outstanding commitment to growing the sport, supporting certified coaches, and making tennis accessible to everyone — all year round, right here in Ottawa-Vanier-Gloucester.
It was a pleasure to meet Nicki Bridgland, Founder & CEO, Pierre Tafelski, Director of Tennis & Pickleball, and Rachel Cruickshank, Head of High Performance & Competitive Development, to personally congratulate them and present a certificate celebrating this remarkable achievement.
Thank you and congratulations to the entire team at RSC, dedicated to inclusion, sport, and excellence — this recognition is truly well deserved!

That same day, I joined my colleagues Yasir Naqvi and Jenna Sudds at Taste for Hope 2025, in support of the Shepherds of Good Hope. It was a truly successful evening that raised 400 000$ to support those most vulnerable of our communities.
Alongside Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and hundreds of community members, we showed our support for the continuum of care model, which helps people experiencing homelessness access stable and permanent housing with personalized support.
From exquisite dishes prepared by some of Ottawa’s top chefs to moving testimonies, including from Hope Living in Kanata, the evening highlighted the power of solidarity and compassion.
Thank you to everyone who supports this vital cause. 
On Wednesday, we learned with great sadness of the passing of the Honourable Marc Garneau.
An astronaut, naval officer, minister, and dedicated parliamentarian, Mr. Garneau was a trailblazer whose exceptional journey inspired generations of Canadians. His commitment to public service, his intelligence, and his wisdom will remain in our memories.
I join all those who mourn his loss and celebrate his remarkable legacy. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Thank you, Marc, for your invaluable contributions to Canada.

Thursday’s Spring Merchant Meet-Up at Sachi’s Café-Bistro on Beechwood was a great reminder of how lucky we are to have such vibrant local businesses here in Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester. Thank you to all the merchants who joined us to exchange ideas and build connections.
A special thank you to Nathalie Carrier and the Vanier BIA for their continued dedication and leadership in bringing our business community together. Your work truly makes a difference. And thank you as well to Councillor Rawlson King for joining us!

On Friday morning, I had the privilege of attending Eid al-Adha celebrations at the EY Centre, alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney and my colleagues from the National Capital Region — Sophie Chatel, Giovanna Mingarelli, Marie-France Lalonde, Yasir Naqvi, Jenna Sudds, Ali Ehsassi, and Randeep Sarai.
Eid al-Adha is a special time to reflect on the values of peace, renewal, and unity, and to reaffirm our commitment to charity and supporting those who need it most.
To everyone celebrating, I wish you peace, joy, and meaningful moments with your loved ones as you honour your traditions and your community.

On Saturday, June 7, I’ll proudly walk in the Blackburn Hamlet Funfair parade alongside our wonderful community. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. from Louis-Riel High School to the Blackburn Community Centre. 🚶♀️🚲🎈
We’ll also be celebrating the 10th edition of VéloFest Vanier, and Célébr-été, hosted by Councillor Tim Tierney!
